What do a lover of the Gothic, Halloween and Anime; a master of Haiku and improv; a lifetime resident of Boston who describes herself as “an urban womanist”; an editor and reviewer who composed her first poem in the third grade; a workshop leader and retired minister; as well as a native of Kentucky who lead the '90s resurgence of spoken-word with live music have in common ? They are all part of the all-star poetry line-up at the 4th Annual Poetry Showcase presented in conjunction with the 42th Annual Juried Art Show, sponsored by the Plymouth Guild for the Arts.
This years Showcase will give the Plymouth area residents an opportunity to listen to a wide variation of poetry as well as the chance to purchase some of the poets poetry books and cd's. It will be held on Saturday September 12, 2009 beginning at 1pm, at the Guild's building at 11 North St. Plymouth, MA [downtown Plymouth off of Rte3A]. The feature poets on the program are James Lindsay, Sean Theall, CD Collins, Mignon Ariel King, Pam Rosenblatt and Charles 'Chuck' Harper. Co-founder Jack Scully and Rene Schwiesow will serve as the hosts for the day's readings.
Kentucky native CD Collins follows the storytelling traditions of the South, both as a solo artist and when accompanied by musicians. She has two compact disc of her words. Besides poetry she has produced two videos,her fiction has appeared in numerous literary magazines and a collection of her short stories was publish in 2009.
Mignon Ariel King is a former English instructor and editor and creator of two on line journals. Her work often reflects nothing but love for the twinkling nocturnal lights of her beloved city on the Charles River, with its world-famous athletes, rockers, seafood, baked beans, and cobbled, bricked charm.
Having lived most of her life in the suburbs of Boston, Pam Rosenblatt love for the written word developed in the third grade when she composed her first poem. It was a poem about Autumn. She is a poet, poetry editor and poetry reviewer, many of her reviews have appeared in Boston Area Small Press and Poetry Scene.
James Lindsay has been a star and fixture in the slam poetry scene in the Cambridge/Somerville scene for many years. Almost three years ago, James made the final round of the Cantabs Head-To-Head Haiku Slam with a pocketful of sharp haiku and enough smarts to improv a dozen more on the spot.
A retired minister Charles [Chuck] Harper is a Plymouth area resident. He is a member of the Tidepool Poets of Plymouth. He is a frequent leader of poetry workshops at the Plymouth Public Library where some of the poets explored include Dickerson, Whitman, Oliver, Milosz and Hall.
Since 2002 Sean Theall has hosted a poetry venue at Main Street Cafe in North Easton, MA. He is the sponsor of the yearly Dave L. Osgood free verse poetry contest as well as the Mike Amado Invitational Slam and Spoken Word Warrior Award, name for the Co-founder of this Showcase.
